Q:

My P1 child prefers English. How can I help them speak more Chinese?

A:

It’s very common for P1 children in Singapore to prefer English.
Most can speak Chinese — they just feel shy.

At Aiwen’s Premium Small-Group Chinese Classes (2–6 students), we help children open up through:

① A safe space → confidence to speak

We don’t correct immediately.
Children start with simple words they already know.

② 3D ARTS Method → speak naturally

Through drawing, movement and stories, children speak Chinese while having fun.

③ Simple sentence frames → easy to start

“I see…”
“I like…”
“Today I…”
“Because… therefore…”

These structures make speaking Chinese much easier.

What parents can try at home:

• 1-minute “Chinese time” daily
• Use simple words
• Encourage, don’t over-correct

When confidence grows, speaking becomes natural.
A small start today builds strong Chinese speaking confidence.
